Scope and Goals
This Ain’t Your
Mama’s 50
Pretty soon I’ll be 49. Uh Oh. I am
approaching a milestone, turning 50 in about a year. Most of my siblings have
surpassed it already. I have a year to document the run up to 50 but I want to
explore more than that. I’d like to find out about differences, real and
perceived between generations: culture, behavior, beliefs, entertainment, view
on careers, views about other generations. Feel free to make suggestions for
topics from your vantage point.
This blog will be about many things
including how different generations view each other. I have some notions about
my mom at 50. They are probably dead wrong filtered through my then 25-year-old
eyes. So we’ll see if we can shed some light on that period in her life. Let’s
make this forum participatory.
I would like you to share your view of your
parents at 50 and if you are closing in on or past 50, getting to/past this
point. Then, if you can, ask your parents what 50 was really like and share it
with us. Here is a can of worms, tell us how do you think your children
view(ed) you. Then ask them what is their perception.
I hope it becomes a form of
cultural archeology and cultural therapy.
My mom is writing her entry now. I hope to share it soon but she doesn't have a computer. I expect to receive it by snail mail. My 25 year old niece is also writing her entry. I'll post which ever I receive first.
